Time for small employers to get ready for Single Touch Payroll
From 1 July 2019 onwards, employers with 19 or fewer employees are required to start reporting through STP. According to the ATO, STP reporting aims to provide greater transparency and streamline payroll reporting processes to benefit small business owners.
This important change will help small business owners to save time and stress when it comes to their annual reporting requirements.
Ever since STP reporting has been made compulsory for businesses with more than 20 employees on 1 July 2018, there are more than 74,000 employers (representing over 4 million Australian employees) who have been reporting successfully through STP.
Small business owners can start reporting through STP anytime from 1 July 2019 to 30 September 2019. For businesses who are unavailable to meet the deadline, ATO has an online form set up for applications to defer a start date.
